On April 26, the Senate unanimously approved legislation sponsored by State Senator Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) that would provide an owner of a vehicle the option to register their vehicle for up to five years, instead of the current practice of registering a vehicle every year.
Under Senate Bill 1505, the Secretary of State would be required to offer each owner of vehicles under 8,000 pounds a registration period of one to five years. The vehicle owner would be required to pay a one-time fee with the price based on how many years they chose to register their vehicle.
If signed into law, the Secretary of State would begin to provide owners with this option beginning with the 2019 registration year.
