McConchie Calls for Public Hearings on COVID Plan

As legislators prepare to return to Springfield, State Senator Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) is calling for hearings on Governor J.B. Pritzker’s overly-restrictive plan to re-open Illinois.

“Next week, we will be back in Springfield, and legislators must be allowed to ask questions about and weigh in on Governor Pritzker’s re-opening plan,” said McConchie. “I’m calling on the Senate President and Speaker of the House to schedule legislative hearings so we can debate the plan in an open forum.”

According to McConchie, public hearings would allow representatives from the governor’s office to appear before the legislature to answer questions about what data and other factors went into crafting the governor’s re-opening plan. It would also give legislators an opportunity to provide feedback and weigh in on the plan’s more restrictive provisions.

“The Governor and legislature are co-equal branches of government for a reason. Due to his emergency proclamations, the governor has been operating without the natural oversight of the legislature for months. Just like Congress has been questioning President Trump’s administration during this crisis, Illinois residents deserve to have the governor’s administration respond to questions by their elected state representatives,” said McConchie.
