Illinois Senate Republican Leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) released the following statement on voting NO on SB 1169, which made controversial changes to Illinois’ Healthcare Right of Conscience Act:
“Over 55,000 people signed witness slips opposing the weakening of Illinois’ Healthcare Right of Conscience Act, a law that protects individuals from being forced to betray their sincerely-held moral or religious beliefs. Despite this record opposition, in the middle of the night, the Democratic majority ignored these witnesses and the many thousands more who share their beliefs and voted to undermine Illinoisans’ fundamental rights. This total disregard for the will of the people is a disgrace to democracy and is exactly why Illinois residents have zero trust in their government.”
