Sen. McConchie honors local heroes at State Capitol

In recognition of Memorial Day, State Senator Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) paid tribute to two local fallen soldiers at the Memorial Day Remembrance Wall located in the Illinois State Capitol.

The annual Wall of Remembrance features a moving display that cycles on a large screen the photos and stories of men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Members of the General Assembly, staff, and visitors also have the opportunity to share their own stories and memories of loved ones and friends who have fallen in the line of duty, or to simply express gratitude by filling out notes to post on the Wall.

Sen. McConchie left notes on the Wall in honor and remembrance of Army Maj. Paul R. Syverson III of Lake Zurich and Army Spc. Wesley R. Wells of Libertyville, who both paid the ultimate sacrifice in 2004 during Operation Enduring Freedom.

“While we can never repay the debts owed to our fallen servicemen and women, we can take the time to honor and remember their service and sacrifice,” said Sen. McConchie. “As we enjoy our cook-outs and gathering this Memorial Day, let’s not forget the individuals who provided us our freedom. Let’s all take the time to reflect and remember the heroes throughout our country’s history and make sure that they are never forgotten.”
